I like it hot. I'm from Florida, so it kind of makes since. I've never relished in the fall like folks who go ga ga for mums, and pumpkins and all that. I've never want to say goodbye to summer and its dresses and open-toed shoes and it's lack of a need for layers. But this year we're kind of easing into things - it was 80 yesterday and more heat records are expected to break today. This I like. This gradual ease into the cold weather. The longer we postpone the actual tears I cry when I get into a cold bed, the better. The leaves are holding their own too, which is good news for my husband's sanity. Getting the leaves off our yard is a full-time job in the fall. And one in which I don't like to partake.
Two weekends ago we took the kids up to this fall mecca - Hillridge Farms - complete with hay rides, train rides, mazes, hay jumps, giant slides, farm animals AND a corn pit (or corn pool - think ball pit but with corn kernels). I was a little skeptical at first. I'm not a fan of things like this. It's the way I feel about Rhyme Time at the library. I don't partake. I can only take being a mom so far and taking my kids to anything called Rhyme Time is against all I believe. If it was simply called Storytime, it would be a different story. But since I caved a few weeks ago and experienced my first Rhyme Time, what would a day with the family and some hay rides do to me.
It was so worth it.
Corn pit!
And in other news I co-hosted my first play group. Yes, you read that correctly. Something else I've worked hard at avoiding. Sure we've had lots of play dates, but I'd never call them THAT. The word makes me shiver. 12 kids, a bunch of moms and one really brave dad. And I really just wanted to help Nicole with the food, and I ended up co-hosting, which is kind of funny, because let's be honest, she did all the work. Now that I've been to Rhyme Time, went to a pumpkin farm, and co-hosted (sort 0f) a playgroup it's clearly time for me to get a job.
