At the beginning of every summer my mom's side of the family and all my cousins - I think there are 12 of us, our spouses and all my cousins' kids - there's a lot of them - get together for the Carter family cookout and camp out at the ponds where my mom grew up, where some of my aunts and uncles live, and where I spent a large part of most of my of summers growing up.
It is such a fun day, and even more so now because of Lila and I'm so thrilled for her to have this little tradition, to be around such huge extended family, to laugh and play with all my cousins' children! And one day when she's older and begs to camp out with the rest of the kids (and their parents) we will David and the kids will pitch a tent and actually spend the night! For now we'll enjoy a day of swimming in the pond, hayrides, chickens, cows, hot dogs and fireworks and go home to beds and air conditioning.
This was the first year for swimming in the pond. My uncle Jimmy has put in an amazing beach, added a bunch of sand so it's perfect depth for kiddos and has it outfitted with floats and a slide. We were not prepared for swimming and hopefully that'll help explain a familiar face looking like the white trash relative brought to the party in just her diaper. A regular diaper that oozed crystal in
sides every time she sat down on the slide. Someone had pity on her and let her borrow a blue shirt (so she looks like a white trash boy) and someone else shared a swim diaper once hers got so heavy it started falling down. Not that it mattered one bit to Lila!

That diaper has to have weighed 15 pounds. I love it. You look precious!
